Song Lyric Dyslexia

Sometimes I'm just going about my business and doing my thing, whatever that thing might be at the moment, and a chorus to a song pops into my head and next thing I know my mouth is singing right along with my head.

Sometimes I get song lyric dyslexia though.  Sometimes it's pretty comical and makes me laugh and sometime it's pretty serious and makes me think.

This time, the changed lyrics have stayed with me for about a week and have really got me thinking.

I think that as of this morning my thoughts have come full circle and so it's time to write them down.

Here are the song lyrics that popped in my head a week ago:

The cross behind me, the world before me.

At first I was disappointed in my head for having mixed up the lyrics.  How sad that my head would put the cross behind me.

Then my head chose a new preposition.... within.

The cross WITHIN me, the world before me.

Now I am reminded me that I am to be in this world but not of this world.  I am marching onward filled with Christ and taking Him to the world.  I get to be His hands and feet and through my actions I can demonstrate His love.

Yes, sometimes my life represents the cross within me and the world before me.  But other times it is most definitely

the world behind me, the cross before me.

A season of rest.

The world will suck you dry.  I need to recharge in Christ.

This made me think of Belleview Baptist Church.  A beautiful place filled with a wonderful group of brothers and sisters in Christ.  A place I very much consider my home church and my people.

This church does church well.  This church is a respite for it's congregation.  A place to reach the lost while simultaneously recharging their souls for the week ahead.  They care for one another as no place you have ever seen.  The way they care for one another make them different and would make outsiders or unbelievers want to be a part of the Christ they serve and worship.  They are Christ to each other and in doing that demonstrate Christ to the world.  In doing that they are recharged each week to serve those in the world that Christ puts in their path.

Every Sunday morning the world goes behind them and the cross is before them as they corporately come together to individually worship, find rest and recharge.  Every Monday they are filled with the cross within them as they walk into the world before them to serve.

Not only do they serve their own congregation each week, through their service and example they have taught and prepared many to go into the world with this same mind set.

I am one them and consider myself thankful that God allowed me the honor to serve with them for the short time I was there, to have made friendships that will last into heaven and to heard some great teachings.

I'm not saying other churches don't do this also. In fact I have been part of such churches.  But for right now I am enjoying reminiscing about a church I was once apart of, that sings this cherished hymn and brothers and sisters in Christ that I dearly miss.

Yes sometimes it is
the world behind me and cross before me
and sometimes it is
the cross within me the world before me.

It is important to know which time it is and to be appropriately prepared.
I am thankful for life lessons with Christ.
