What Has the Last Year Revealed

Today's devotion highlighted this verse:

Jeremiah 29:11-13  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart

I know this verse well.  This knowledge provides great peace as I walk through this world.  Honestly I have always looked at this verse in terms of the moment, the day or tomorrow.

This seemed reasonable.

Until today.

At the close of today's devotion the question was asked:

What have you learned about God's good plans for you based on the past year?

At first I really didn't have an answer.  Then slowly I've had some thoughts.....

Triplet grandchildren turned 2

Twin grandbabies were born

A dear friend who doesn't have the hope found in Christ is experiencing a serious crisis with her daughter

My BFF remains always there

My youngest daughter by birth graduated and started her freshman year in college

My oldest daughter by birth is contemplating relationships, marriage and life

Jeff and I grew a very productive garden and our pantry is full

Jojo passed away and Moe joined our family

Jethro is aging

A dear friend of our family committed her sister to a nursing home

Mom and dad will celebrate 50 years of marriage this November

Jeff's sister's family and I do not have a relationship but we can now exchange needed messages

Doug has moved to Cincinnati, Jake to Nashville and AJ to Vincennes

I have visited my home church in Kentucky and it still feels like home

A dear friend's son passed away

I have three local churches I stay in contact with, but none do I consider "home"

My second to the oldest daughter by marriage and her husband moved into their first home

My oldest daughter by marriage and I continue to grow in relationship

Jeff reignited his interest in the radio world

I am sure there are more, but these are the highlights that stood out in my thoughts.

With what God has shown from the last year, where is He leading me?  I'm not exactly sure.  But there is one thing I know

We are not promised tomorrow, only the moment we are in.  These moments of the past year reveal a great ministry God has within my friends and family.  God can move through me to reach those in my life if I am available for His service.

Daily I must surrender my will to His and be available for His service.
I am thankful this devotion had me look through the past year to see where God is leading.  I see strong movement weaving in and out of friends and family.  I am sure what He teaches me today I will need tomorrow.  For our family and friends, I would serve them well to be obedient.

What a wonderful God we serve!
